MEDIA FRACTURES:
This project is the outcome of video and photography research on the Internet and tv channels. Images are taken from international TV breaking news, concerning the theme of political “control”. After this first phase of selection, the digital photo meets material painting on canvas, characterized by colors and rice paper, and ethernet cables.
These elements lead between the fight between material and digital, cables are like roots, frames, and words are trapped in papers remembering ancient cave paintings.
I am interested in the act of selecting images from the Internet chaos, giving back order to the infinite flux of information and images. Also giving value to memory, conferring substance to digital news, born to be lost in the network information flow. Fixing a frame of an event on canvas changes the perception of the news/event itself; it will stay fixed on a painting, maybe also staying fixed somewhere in our mind.
The hybrid between material painting and digital photo represents the eternal fight of contemporary society with nature; pixels against elements of the earth.
